It's where you enjoy family time, dinner parties with friends and late-night cocktail parties – it's your dining room and it's sitting there waiting to be reckoned with. Designating a special area for eating is more important for social reasons, to promote family ties and friend time, however, without great design you might find yourself not so interested in using it all the time.

Minimalism and essentialism are two interior trends that have endured the past several decades and as homeowners are trying to get more, with less, it makes perfect sense. A minimalist dining room allows the focus to be on what's important – good food, and good company. Below we have twelve fantastic examples of minimalist dining rooms that you can easily create in your very own home!

1. Wooden panels

Wood screens or panels are the perfect way to separate space and add a sense of privacy to your dining area. What's best about this wood screen is that it matches the dining room table that comfortably seats eight.

2. Large-scale artwork

So you have the white walls, white chairs and white table – what else could you add? An abstract artwork can make your dining room seem minimalist and fun at the same time.

3. Minimal and industrial

PVC pipes and reclaimed wood are all you need to create this wonderful dinning room table – add the concrete walls and pendant lighting and you have the perfect industrial setting.

4. Eames chairs and a glass top table

Eames chairs are a key foundational element to minimalism and modernism alike. When paired with a glass top table with midcentury legs, it's the perfect match.

5. Pendant lighting and rugs – great details

Why have one pendant lamp when you can have five smaller ones. Not only does this move allow you to adjust the lighting for the mood of the party, but it also adds an interesting design element.

6. A table for two

Not a lot of room but want a place to enjoy coffee or lunch with your partner? This tiny table for two is all you need.

7. Asian-style

Bench seating is a great way to accommodate as many guests as possible. This minimalist home used both bench and chair seating to accommodate just about everyone!

8. Bulky timber table with clear chairs

Bulky isn't normally an aspect of minimalism, but when paired with concrete flooring and polycarbonate chairs, it starts to work.

9. For elegance and sophistication

Stick to neutrals, symmetry and a modern chandelier for an elegant and sophisticated look!

10. Mondrian for the win!

So you have the raw timber table and the Eames chairs, what else you possibly add? Well for one, you could do a fun DIY wall art project based off the work of Mondrian!

11. Round, subdued and chic

For those of you that prefer round tables to rectangle or square – simple add a set of modern, high-design chairs and you're good to go.

12. Pops of greens are all you need

For pops of colour in your modern and minimal dining room, leave it to the natural elements – plants (greenery) and fruits! With minimalism you'll want to cut down on the decor and accessories, so allowing the food and plants in your home to speak for you is important.

We hope that you think all of these dining rooms are doable – we definitely think they are. The dining room is one of those areas that doesn't become used until it's properly invested in – so get started on a new project!
