With Ramadan drawing to a close, it’s time to start preparing your home for Eid celebrations in the month of Syawal. You will be expected to host many visits from friends and family and  so it's important to put them at ease while displaying your stylishing flair at home decorating.   Here are 5 tips to consider when hosting your Eid celebrations.

1. Cleaning and tidying

Before putting up any decorations or re-organising your furniture, take a moment to assess the amount of cleaning and tidying you need to do in your home. These tasks may vary from untangling and tying the cable wires, checking the plumbing system to giving your home a quick, fresh coat of paint. Worrying about these matters when your guests are scheduled to arrive minutes later will take away the joy of spending the festive period with your close ones. Create a checklist or cleaning plan to keep you on track with your cleaning routine and have your home spotless in time for the festive period. As Eid is also about remembering the less fortunate, you can consider donating the items that you no longer need to charity.

2. Choose a theme or style

Pick a style or theme that you like and apply it to your festive decor. This doesn’t necessarily have to dictate the full interior of your home but picking a colour theme or style will give you some structure for you to build on depending on how simple or elaborate your want your home decor to be. A simple tip to consider is testing a few colour combinations before deciding on your preferred choice. Use a few splashes of bold colours or flower arrangements to create continuity through the different rooms and give the atmosphere a sense of festive chicness.

3. Accessorize with table decorations

Once a theme has been decided, the most subtle but effective way you can brighten up your party is with table decorations. For a more formal style, you might want to consider matching accessories such as table rings, table mats and napkins in basic solid colours. You can opt for a relaxed or playful atmosphere by selecting fairylights, small lanterns or patterned tablecloth. Revamping your home is also a great way to get the whole family into the Eid spirit.

4. Cooking up a storm

Food plays a central role in celebrating Eid so it is easy to overlook a messy kitchen after a late night preparing the traditional feast of Lontong and Rendang. Give yourself some time for last minute kitchen cleaning duties before the guests arrive.

5. Feast with your eyes

Take the little extra time to present your food in the theme or style that you have selected. Your guests will your food through their eyes first so creating vibrant contrasting colours, combined with your table decorations,  will help your Eid celebration leave a lasting impression.

6. Play area for kids

With Eid being a time for celebration for the whole family, it's important to remember a space where children can play and join in on the fun. In their own dedicated area, kids can feel free to let loose and create their own fun while parents can relax and enjoy the festivities, knowing exactly where their little ones are. For extra points you can create party bags filled with small gifts for your littlest guests to take with them.

7. Dedicate a space for worship

Besides visitor-friendly spaces such as the living room, dining room and children' room, you will need to allocate a designated space for prayers and worship. You can transform one of your rooms into a temporary Prayer Room or a pleasant corner away from any festive interruptions.
