Designing an urban home is quite challenging! Within limited space we have to weave unlimited desires and dreams. Indian home owners are demanding when it comes to their home. They want the home to look beautiful, complete with all modern amenities and ideas but with traditional touch and above all comes the comfort with homey feel. Professionals of DESIGNHOOD, the design-build firm based in Chennai have done complete justice with the interiors of this 3 BHK duplex home built in a plot size 850 sq.ft. The interior is an eclectic mix of comfort and style and the result is remarkably amazing. Have a look for some ideas and inspirations.

1. Seeping from the screen behind

Dressing up a window is an art and if that window sits behind the sofa then it needs extra attention. Curtains could become cumbersome to handle, so the screen comes to add style and comfort. Above the window an open shelf is made which is used as a showcase. The simple chequered diwan cover of the family space gets it colour from the cushions thrown on it, once again for comfort and adding colour and style. Lights seeps in thrown the screen and from LED light fixed above the window to make the space shine.

2. Illuminated hallway

Neat and uncluttered hallway follows the modern design principle of ‘less is more’ and it works amazingly. Self design tiles on the floor are illuminated from spot lights fixed on the floor and is washed from washers from above.

3. Carvings on the entrance door

A traditional welcome at home with beautiful intricate carvings on entrance door will be appreciated by guests and admired by passersby. It’s very traditional door but apt for famous Indian welcome.

4. Peek-a-boo on staircase

A combination of wood, steel and glass has made it an elegant and modern staircase. There is glass wall in between the two steps creating an illusion of gap between it. The view of patterns on the wall paper on the wall behind the stairs visible through the clear glass on the stairs is making it an innovative way to connect the two floors of duplex house.

5. Colour through the back-splash

This simple kitchen receives its colour through the toughened glass serving as a back-splash sandwiched between the counter and wall cabinets. The small kitchen is made comfortable with its U shape and enough storage space all around.

6. Extra space in the bedroom

The space around the windows is well lit and the view of the world outside is refreshing. The modern day’s home owner prefers to use the space for recreational activities and so the designer has used the space to create a perfect spot for family time. Sit down, lie around or just hang out with friends and family; it is also an innovative way to build extra storage space in home which is always needed.

7. Simplicity in furniture

Simplicity speaks for itself and so does the simple design of the furniture of this home. There is nothing elaborate here as far as design is concerned, but it looks elegant. Wood dominates in furniture but doesn’t it what Indians love for authenticity and tradition?

8. Traditional temple of wood

A very elaborate temple made of wood with glass walls makes the pooja space of the home. With intricate carvings and elaborate design on it, the temple is inspired from the temples of Southern states and it looks pious and pure.
