The kitchen had two period features – the hood connecting to a chimney allowing natural ventilation and a stone sink. The latter was very rustic, very damaged, positioned very low and the wrong width for the new worktop – it had to go. The naturally ventilated hood – thus silent and energy efficient – was kept, it ensured all vapour from wet areas would find its way up the chimney 24/7. The wall tile pattern chosen are Faïence de Salernes – a traditional local hand made tile with subtle glazed tones often seen laid as a patchwork. The Carrara Marble worktop was chosen to add to the Mediterranean feel.
